Zen and the art of Eric and Ernie

07/01/11

While laid up on the sofa today I watched the first episode of Zen on iPlayer. What a stylish bit of work. It's based on the late Michael Dibdin's novel Vendetta and is apparently the first of three they're televising over the next few weeks.  read more ...

Magazines not Getting It

04/12/10

I'm busy reading several years' back issues of Practical Boat Owner at the moment (thanks Hugo) and was thinking I should take out a subscription. As well as offering it in dead tree format it's available digitally for you to download. Wow, I thought, that would be cool. Except it's not.  read more ...

What's good about Ebooks

07/11/10

When I last wibbled about ebooks I did finish by saying that it wasn't all bad news and I would try to write something about the positives. So here's some of them:  read more ...

Struggling with a Tattooed Girl

05/11/10

OS Graffiti

16/09/10

I've not been at my best today so I've been on the sofa reading more of Mike Parker's Map Addict and in it he talks about how the cartographers occasionally like to leave their own tags on the map, just like graffiti artists.  read more ...

Canal Dreams

04/04/10

I've just finished Iain Banks' Canal Dreams. I've not read that much Banks in recent years. I read one of his Culture SciFi books a while ago ...  read more ...

To Ely for Fforde

13/03/10

Having finished listening to Jane Eyre I realised that I'd got nowhere with Stephen Baxter's Flood which was my "currently reading" fiction book. It's hard to say why but it didn't really grab me. ...  read more ...

The Time Traveller's Wife

05/02/10

I've just finished The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger which is a remarkable book, being both a work of science fiction and a love story in one.  read more ...

Jane Eyre (the US Edition!)

31/01/10

Inspired by Rob's enthusiasm for Jane Eyre and my (and his) recent reading of The Eyre Affair I thought, after carefully avoiding it for 49.5 years, I should give Jane Eyre a try.  read more ...
