Ghostly Trees

Ghostly Trees

I spotted these on the road from Bridge of Avon to Drumin past the Tomintoul distillery. They were across the other side of the glen. It was a dreich day although it turned to proper rain at times.

Volcanoes and Burns' Night

22/01/11

We've had a rather excellent day here in Melrose. After a somewhat leisurely start (I got up at 8:45am and wandered down to the kitchen only to find no one there so I walked into Melrose to get some papers - there was someone up when I got back) we walked up the Eildon Hills to look at the view.  read more ...

Sunrise over Milton

Sometimes you just get lucky and even a crappy camera phone takes a good enough picture.

Jake

Jake

As most people know by now Jake was taken from us very unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon. Beth wrote a very eloquent obituary and I don't think there's much I can add except that every time I read it I want to cry again. But I did dig out this photo, a crop of which is currently my avatar all over the place. It was taken by Beth on 5th May and I do like it: one man and his dog.

Low Water

Low Water

This is the old coprolite workings on Quy Fen. Last winter this lake was full to overflowing. Last Sunday it was so low that the depth gauge in the foreground is now entirely out of the water. We need some rain. A lot of it.

One Photographer Photographed ...

On our walk this afternoon while I was taking this photo of Beth with my Nokia 6760 phone Beth was taking a rather better one of me with her Nikon D60.

Although she did clever post processing with hers when we got home: the clouds were good, but they weren't that good.

The Swan Whisperer

The Swan Whisperer

Quite how Beth first managed to get the parent swan to come over and sit so very close to her while she took photos and then for the parent to be so unconcerned when the cygnets turned up too and got even closer I'm not sure, but it was quite a thing to watch.

Favourite Toy

Favourite Toy

I was asked by someone yesterday what my favourite toy was when I was a child (it wasn't an idle question, it was work related) and so I sent them a photo. So let me introduce you all to Bobby. He was my first Christmas present so he was 49 years old last Christmas. I think he's a Chad Valley bear but I'm not 100% certain.

Up until the age of about ten when I blew the candles out on my birthday cake and made a wish I always wished he could talk. Sadly he lost his eyes at some point and he's a bit threadbare in places but he's not in bad condition for his age.

Addenbrooke's from on High

Addenbrooke's from on High

This is the view from the seventh, and top, floor of Addenbrooke's hospital public car park. The only level where we could find a parking space this afternoon. That's the Gog Magog hills in the distance but lots of concrete between them and us.

Fascinating Steam

People gather around 6024 GWR King class "King Edward I" as it prepares to take us up the line to Williton. Lots more photos of this trip now online here.
