Harper

»

After his recent death I bought The Paul Newman Collection - five if his movies1 on DVD. Tonight we watched the first, Harper.

Harper poster And it's a bit a curate's egg really. The big plus is that it's now a period piece and the cars, the architecture and the clothing are all a joy to look at. On the down side some of the acting is wooden, people die the moment they're shot and any scenes shot at the wheel of car are laughable by modern standard (clearly being shot in studio against a filmed background - not even using a low loader).

On balance I enjoyed it but I don't think Beth did really.

Anyway, four more to go including another Harper movie.

  1. Harper, The Drowning Pool, The Left Handed Gun, The Mackintosh Man, and Somebody Up There Likes Me.
