Thunderbird and Usenet

»

Just a quick note for people who, like me, have upgraded to Thunderbird 2 and are missing the newsworthy plug in.

Two key elements from newsworthy can be re-created by hand by changing settings in "Edit|Preferences". Select "Advanced" and under the "General" tab click on the "Config Editor..." button.

If you then change mailnews.nav_crosses_folders to have a value of zero it will no longer ask for confirmation when you press "N" and there's no more unread messages so it wants to skip on to the next newsgroup.

Secondly if you like to see the full rather than abbreviated newsgroup names then set mail.server.default.abbreviate to false (you have to re-start Thunderbird for it to notice this change).
